Unexpected & Utterly Gorgeous Tile & Grout Combos

Category Design Tips

Grout lines aren't exactly known for being fun and beautiful—mostly, they just inspire dread when you pull out an old toothbrush to scrub them clean. But the invention of colored grout is revamping grout's bad reputation. Let these neon yellow, whimsical pink and glitzy gold grids take over your bathroom walls and backsplashes. Coloring inside the lines has never felt so bold.

Justina Blakeney from The Jungalow spotted a match made in tile heaven: Aqua Fireclay Tiles sealed with punchy orange grout, which she replicated in her own bathroom renovation this past year.

Green grout and an off-kilter arrangement reveal the playful side of pristine white tile in this bathroom from Dezeen.

Calling all maximalists, gold glitter grout is a thing, and it's guaranteed to make every surface in your bathroom sparkle. Tile Mountain sells both gold and silver options so you can go right ahead and mix your metals.

In this apartment from Dezeen, the combination of white square tiles and vibrant grout has us feeling nostalgic for the gridded notebooks we used in grade school. A concrete floor and contemporary details prevent the space from veering too twee.

White subway tile? Been there, done that. Blue grout? We need it now. The Design Sheppard ordered some from British Ceramic Tile, but you can find some options at your local hardware store.

There's something unexpectedly edgy about grout in a Dayglow hue. While the acid yellow above may be too much in a kitchen, it provides the right amount of wow in this bathroom from Iris Hantverk.

For a double dose of color, pair blue tiles with yellow grout lines, as the designers did in the space above from Houzz.

Black grout is fairly common, but when combined with pastel pink tile, the choice feels particularly bold. Outlined in black, these blush pink tiles from My Paradissi make a style statement.

Playful and feminine aren't the first words that spring to mind when describing grout—that is, until I glimpsed the pretty hot pink mortar above from Good Homes Magazine, via Domino.
