Tyson Properties launches affordable retirement option to the Durban market

Our golden years are commonly associated with relaxation, comfort, and enjoyment however in reality many people entering their retirement years are often left anxious about where they will live at this stage of their life. With this in mind, the development of Langeler Towers is a welcome concept to the Durban market. Situated only a stone’s throw from the southernmost point of Durban’s Golden Mile, it will offer ultimate seaside living for over 55 year olds looking for a serene complex to reside in, yet don’t necessarily have the budget to do so. With pristine views over the Durban harbor, the ocean and uShaka Marine World, Tyson Properties is proud to be associated with Langeler Towers .
This exciting TAFTA (The Association for the Aged) development is an 11 storey complex that has been specially designed to address the housing requirements of those earning low incomes, in an environment which caters to their specific need of supportive services, security and a continuum of care as required. Langeler Towers will make available self-catering units with a monthly rental option, geared so that the units are affordable.
Featuring an on-site shop, hairdresser, laundry, internet café, a library and a Service Centre where meals and a full range of activities will be provided to residents, Langeler Towers will boast some incredible facilities. The complex, which links to the fully renovated John Conradie House, will have access to a newly designed frail care unit and an extensive assisted living unit, and will also offer top of the range security, allowing residents 24-hour safety.
“Tyson Properties UShaka is thrilled to be the sole marketer of a purpose-built project that will address the need for affordable retirement living in the Durban area,” said Tyson Properties Ushaka Principal Cecily Deetlifs.
She continues, “Langeler Towers will provide accommodation for 300 to 400 residents. The flatlets, which are planned to become available for occupation in 2016, will feature various sizes and will be rented out on a per-bed basis. This will allow residents the option to choose a rental that suits their pocket and which allows them to plan their finances more accurately. There are options to share a rental with a friend or to choose a four-bed rental if the resident would prefer more space”.
TAFTA’s vision is to collaborate with partners in order to help meet the need for safe affordable housing in an environment which is conducive to healthy, active ageing.
“Over the last few years, we have cemented our reputation as a leader in providing safe, sheltered housing and care for older people in need in the Ethekwini Municipality. We encourage the elderly to live as independent member of the community for as long as possible, and to care for those who are no longer able to look after themselves,” said TAFTA CEO Margie Smith.

“We are one of only a few providers of affordable care for those who have limited incomes and we are acutely aware of the need to provide for those have a good income but wish to secure safe and secure care now because they recognize that their income will be insufficient to sustain them if they should live to a great age or if they should need extensive hospital or frail care,” she said.
“TAFTA is under constant pressure to meet this ever-increasing demand. This development will allow us contribute to our plan to provide better, affordable care to the people of Durban while at the same time helping to secure TAFTA’s sustainability. I encourage Durban’s over 55’s to act now and be safe and secure in TAFTA’s hands,” ends Margie.
