Paint Your Home to Refresh and Revive

Category Design Tips

If you're looking for an affordable way to revive and refresh your living space, paint is definitely an option to consider. Today's Plascon Paints offer eco-friendly alternatives for painting more than walls, and you get to choose the perfect colour combinations to match your mood or your home.

Gone are the days when you had to move out of the room while the paint had time to dry, or be careful not to touch anything while the paint was still wet. Water-based acrylic paints now replace oil- and solvent-based paints and offer even better performance, quick drying time, and low odour. Another added benefit of acrylic paints is that they can be used to decorate more than just walls, from ceramic tiles to melamine or wood cabinets and furniture. Acrylic paints combined with the proper primer and you are ready to decorate and revive a home... instantly.

No more smelly oil-based paints for bathrooms. Waterbased enamel offers low odour and a finish that dries quickly to make bathroom transformations a breeze. And Plascon's Velvaglo waterbased enamel contains silver protect antibacterial and fungal protection that inhibits mould and mildew growth. While water-based enamel offers a semi-gloss satin finish, Plascon Kitchens & Bathrooms paint is a water-based enamel with a matt finish, and is available in white or pastel tints.

GOOD TO KNOW
If bathroom walls have previously been painted with oil-based enamel paints you can paint over this. Scrub the walls clean with Polycell Sugar Soap and wipe dry before applying Plascon Multi-Surface primer.

Gone are the days when bathrooms and kitchens needed to be tiled from floor to ceiling. Now, you can express your creativity with paint and design a bathroom in your choice of colour. Go with neutral or light colours in a small bathroom and add a feature wall or panel to add a splash of bright colour to liven up the room. Any money saved on not tiling the room can be put into buying luxury fittings to kit out a bathroom or kitchen in style.

Paint allows you to update walls and trim in any room in a home. Paint walls with Plascon Double Velvet for a satin finish that is washable and tough, or go with Plascon Suede or Cashmere for a designer feature wall. Using a suede paint is ideal for walls with lots of blemishes, as the flat  finish doesn't reflect light and imperfections become less visible.

For trim such as skirtings, door and window frames, as well as interior doors, use Plascon Velvaglo water-based enamel for a finish that can take everyday knocks. Plus this new water-based technology is so much easier to apply.

If you're not sure what colour to paint trim, stay with a neutral colour or white.  Woodwork or trim painted in a slightly darker shade than that used on walls has a softening affect, whereas trim painted in white or dark constrasting colour will have a greater impact and allow architectural details stand out.
You can use acrylic paints to paint a hardwood floor, but unfortunately you can't paint laminate or tiled floors. If you want to lighten up a dark floor, lightly sand before applying wood primer and Plascon Wall & All. For a durable finish, apply a wax polish or two coats of polyurethane varnish to protect and extend the finished surface.

Moving over to using water-based paints allows you more freedom for painting surfaces in a home, plus they are eco-friendly and that means you know your home won't be polluted by toxins. Water-based acrylic paints means easy clean up after painting - simply wash your paintbrushes and rollers with clean water.
