Add a ‘pop’ of colour to revitalise your home’s décor

Category Design Tips

There’s nothing like a pop of colour to add a touch of finesse to your home, and this time colour on the walls won’t cut it, but a colourful piece of furniture will - try it, it’s simple.

“Choosing colourful pieces of furniture is not as hard as it seems, and not just for the adventurous few, but for the unadventurous too. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the outcome a shade of green, a splurge of yellow and a burst of blue can have on your home. But ensure you choose your pieces wisely,” says Alon Sachs, co-founder of Mobelli Furniture and Living.

In the décor and design world, the use of colour is essential to add personality and flair to the room, and here’s what most people don’t know - even a dash of colour can enhance an indoor space dramatically. But before selecting your top furniture picks, Sachs says to first think about the setting you wish to create, then consider the size of your space and decide which pieces will work well in the area, lastly, review colours that work in harmony with your wall colour - the latter is fundamental.
And if necessary, that colourful piece of furniture can easily create a degree of balance your indoor area has been crying out for.
Sachs offers some advice on what to do and what not to do when colouring-up your lounge:

The dos:
1. Keep large furniture items neutral.
2. Simply add a colourful statement chair, rug or scatter cushion to keep your space vibrant and up to date.

The don’ts:
1. Steer clear of colours that clash - for example, a combination of green and violet is a no-no.
2. Stick with a colour pallet and use harmonious shades that complements the wall colour and other large neutral shades of furniture.
“Using colour well doesn’t mean you need to add a huge colourful sofa to your lounge, in fact that’s probably the worst thing you can do. Keep the main pieces simple, yet elegant, but introduce a shade here or there to complement your existing pieces of furniture and you will be pleasantly surprised at the effect it has,” says Sachs.
